November, 1911.
I am commanded by the Army Council to forward for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of a letter addressed to the Admiralty, relative to the dispatch from Hong Kong to Shanghai of British and Indian troops, should the present state of unrest in China render such a course necessary for the protection of the foreign settlement at that place.
I am to add that a further detachment of two companies Indian Infantry is being held in reserve by the General Officer Commanding South China, in case assistance should be required by the Navy for the protection of the British residents in Canton.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant
Euorund
